She is the founder and Artistic Director of Miriam Barbosa Dance (Formerly SC Contemporary Dance Company). She is a former member of the Martha Graham Dance Company. She holds an MFA from the University of Fine Arts of Sao Paulo, Brazil, where she received her classical ballet training. From 1992 to 2002, she collaborated with and worked for Dzul Dance Company in New York. In 1997, she choreographed concerts and tours for Emproart, a contemporary dance company based in Sao Paulo. In 1991, she joined the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance and was awarded a scholarship as technique demonstrator. She performed with the Martha Graham American Touring Ensemble from 1993 to 1996, guesting with the Martha Graham Dance Company for thei City Center Seasons in New York and Spoleto Festival, Italy (1993-1996). She was a guest artist throughout Spain and Brazil in 1997. She returned to New York to dance with the Martha Graham Dance Company, 1998-2001. Since 1993, she taught Graham Technique and choreographed as a guest artist throughout Europe, South America and the United States. She has taught at the Graham School, Fashion Institute of Teachnology, SC Governor's School for the Arts in NYC, Nevada Festival, Institute of Theatre of Barcelona, Spain, Lisbon Dance Company, National Conservatory of Dance of Portugal, the Ginasiano Ballet School and the Olympic Auditorium in Rome, Italy. From 2002-2008, she was an Assistant Professor at the University of South Carolina. She has performed extensively throughout the globe and created extraordinary choreographic works in addition to be selected to set many of Martha Graham's most famous choreographic works. She stage Appalachian Spring Suite for the Carolina Ballet.
